Loch Shiel – Glenfinnan Monument
The Glenfinnan Monument was erected in 1815. It is a memorial tower marking the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie (Charles Edward Stuart) raised his standard at the start of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
Today the monument is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
This image was captured on a hill above the National Trust Visitor’s Centre.

Jim…..this is a very peaceful setting and your photo is lovely. The colors are beautiful, the mountains are majestic, and the loch looks calm and serene. The island adds a lot of mystery and interest to the photo!

Thanks Judy. I also love this place, particularly when there is a dusting of snow on the mountain tops. This was shot in autumn last year. To get the snow on the mountains need to go in January or February.

Thanks Jocelyne. A dusting of snow on the mountain tops can make this scene even better, if the light is good.
